SELECTING BOARD FOR R .A .F.
IT IS BUSY EXAMINING N.Z. CANDIDATES (P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 30. A selection board set up in New Zealand to select officers and noncommissioned aircrews for the Royal Air Force has been working in Wellington since December examining candidates’ applications and service records. The board is now ready to commence interviews in the main centres. Some 50 candidates have been interviewed already in Wellington. The board has planned a tour to include Auckland early next month, and Christchurch and Dunedin towards the end of the month. It ' hoped to Interview about 150 cand: dates during this tour. A further tour will be arranged to deal with those applicants whose records are not as yet complete. This will probably be during March. Candidates for whom it is impossible to arrange interviews during the tours will be invited to attend In Wellington during late March or early April. Medical boards are being arranged in the main centres and candidates will be called forward as early as possible for examination after their interviews, if successful. A subsistence allowance for candidates attending medical boards has been authorised by the British Treasury, and will be paid to candidates on reporting for embarkation. Final acccntance of candidates rests with the British Air Ministry, to whom the board will signal the. details of those recommended. The Air Ministry is treating the selections as a matter of urgency to avoid discouragement due to long waiting periods, and is signalling its accentances back to the board, which will notify candidates individually whether or not they have been accepted.
