MORE THAN NINE HUNDRED VISITING BANDSMEN

BIG ACCOMMODATION TASK SOLVED IN WANGANUI

Accommodation problems for the N.Z. brass bands contest, to be held in Wanganui next month, have now been settled, it was reported to Inst night's meeting of the Band Contest Committee.

There are 1200 entrants, with accommodation demands for over 900, all of whom have now had accommodation arranged for them, the great majority in hotels and boarding houses.

Efforts made have had such satisfactory results that now only one marquee will have to be pressed Into service to accommodate bandsmen. The-number who will be billeted at the racecourse and Sjylggens Park will be approximately 250.

Hotels are to accommodate 501 bandsmen, Y.M.C.A. hostel 30, privately 37, boat sheds 30, race course and Spriggens Park 250, bringing the total to 847. Additional billeting has been made for the others.

The Trentham Ordnanae Department is to make available beds, complete with mattresses, sheets etc. For those at the racecourse three hot meals are to be provided daily Hot showers are to be installed

‘I would like to Congratulate the committee and secretary on the way they have conducted arrangements for the contest” stated Mr. J G. Osborne, secretary of the N.Z. Brass Bands Association, who attended the meeting. “I know you have had a big job with accommodation, particularly after the lamentable fire,” he added.
