HALF HOLIDAY TO BE OBSERVED ON SATURDAY IN WAITOTARA COUNTY

Saturday will be the statutory halfholiday in Waitotara County as a result of a resolution adopted at a special meeting of the county council yesterday. This decision was reached following a communication irom the Department of Labour earlier this month asking the council to select a half-holiday as required under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22. The decision would affect settlers in different ways, considered the chairman, Cr. W. Morrison, who pointed out that at Maxwell the storekeeper who operated the telephone and mail service would be compelled to keep his doors closed all day on Saturday. Letters posted at Wanganui on Thursday would not be received by Maxwell addressees until Monday, he said. It appeared that little could be done about it, however. The resolution was adopted practically without discussion. Cr. Mor. rison presided over Crs. G. H Trott, H. Titter, G. Palmer, W. McKee and G. Crafar.
