WOMEN’S BOWLING RINKS TOURNAMENT

FIRST THREE ROUNDS DECIDED The Manawatu and West Coast Women's Bowling Centre opened their three-day annual rinks tournament at the Castlecliff greens yesterday in perfect weather. The greens were in excellent condition and showed a slight speeding up towards the end of the afternon. Large entries were received for the tournament this year, more than 60 women competing. The figures compare favourably with nominations received in past tournaments. The results of the first three rounds which were completed yesterday are as follows: First Round.—Pettitt (Castlecliff) 21, Price (Seatoun) 12; Madway (Levin) 18, Dobie (Waitotara) 9; Underwood (Hokowhltu) 19, Farr (Wanganui 13; Dempster (Wanganui) 20, Penfold (Waitotara), 10; Scales (Terrace End) 15, Oxley (Castlecliff) 14; Allan (Castlecliff 15, Heginbotham (Kilbirnie) 13; Holloway (Wanganui) 20, Griffiths (Island Bay) 9; Drake (Island Bay 18, Robinson (Castlecliff) 16. Second Round.—Heginbotham 25, Dobie 7; Holloway 22, Oxley 8; Scales 31, Robinson 7; Penfold 16, Farr 7; Mudgway 20, Pettitt 5; Dempster 19, Price 10; Allan 20, Drake 7; Underwood 17, Griffiths 14.

Third Round.—Heginbotham 14, Pettit 10; Price 20, Farr 11; Holloway 15, Underwood 13; Allan 24, Scales 11; Robinson 24, Oxley 11; Dempster 17, Mudgway 8; Drake 23, Dobie 6; Penfold 13, Griffiths 12.

Summary of day’s play: Holloway, Dempster and Allan, 3 wins; Underwood, Drake, Heginbotham, Scales, Penfold and Mudgway, 2 wins; Robinson, Price, and Pettitt, 1 win; Griffiths, Farr, Dobie, and Oxley no wins.
