LEADING HORSEMAN

When W. J. Broughton rc.Jc four winners at Trentham last Saturday, after having been on two winners the previous Saturday, he lifted his total for ihe current season to 42, which is 20 ahead of his nearest rival, N. B. Holland, Broughton’s mounts at Trentham to-day include Howe (Gloaming Stakes), Capronella (W.R.C. Handicap), Yasda (Metropolitan Hanuieap, Mr Pym (Douro Handicap), Matawcne, Darius and Opulent. Bruce was the second winner of the Wellington Cup that W. J. Broughton has ridden, as he won on Grand Jury in 1934, when the event was run over a mile and ahalf. It was also the second occasion on which Broughton had ridden the winner of a two-mile race, as he won the New Zealand Cup on Spearful in 1931.
