ASHHURST CARD

AWAPUNI MEETING AND PROSPECTS As was the case twelve months ago, the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club’s meeting will be held to-day at Awapuni, and in spite of the clash, with the big Trentham meeting less than 100 miles away it looks as if the provincial club will score another success. The fields engaged are of useful dimensions, though some of the horses barded will be at Trentham. The track is reported to be in excellent order and the going should be fast. Principal event is the Ashhurst. Cup. for which there is likely to be a field of at least ten. Dileas, the topweight, has the best form and is the likely favourite. Good performances are also likely from Gay Lena, Cramond

Bay and Ihe improving Filature. The Pohangina Handicap will be contested by a useful field, headed by the consistent Specialist and. last year’s winner, Blue Bonny. Flying Orders, Salmi and Drambuie are abso useful sorts, but Specialist and Blue Bonny look like being best backed. Wanganui interest will attach to the engagement of Lambro in the Manawa! u Gorge Hack Cup, as this chap has run good races under welter weights. Tula and Tahli may be dangerous customers. Divisions will be necessary in the Novice Stakes, for which there were 29 acceptors, and the stake-money will be increased to £260.
