HUNTERVILLE TOWN BOARD

WAR MEMORIAL SCHEME COMMUNITY CENTRE FAVOURED (0.C.) Hunterville, Jan. 21 Further correspondence in regard to War Memorial schemes was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs by the Hunterville Town Board last evening. It was made clear that any proposal for which a Government subsidy w as required would have to be submitted to the department for approval. Community centres were favoured by the department, and memorials along these lines were suggested. The board tentatively approved of the Community Centre scheme, but the whole matter is to he discussed by tiie “at.'ioiic Committee and possibly later by a public meeting. A letter was received from the Health Department, advising that regulations making it compulsory Io wrap bread would come into force in January, 1548. No action was taken and the letter was received. The following transfers of property were approved:—From R. T. Batchelar (Rangitlra Road) to G. Taylor; from Estate F. Meads (Milne Street) to M. Voyce. The quarterly repo: t of the health inspector (Mr. J. Flowers) indicated that 83 inspections had been made during the period and everythin;, was in good order. There were no infectious diseases in the town. The matter of repairs to the footbath on Onea Road was referred to tiie Works Committee with power to act. It was decided to enforce the restrictions in regard to erection of decorations in the Town Hall. Discretionary power was left to the Hall Committee. The 10 per cent, penalty for the non-payment of rat£s is to be imposed after February 15. The meeting was presided over by Mr. R. A. Gordon and all commissioners were present. same 12 which defendant had previously selected. The factor was chance and the competition became a lottery.
