‘Work Or Bust'

Britain’s New Slogan Received 1 1.45 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 21 The people of Britain have been warned that the economic situation of the country is not good. Employers and workers have been toM, in a White Paper, that they must produce more or the standards of living of the people will fall still further. Slogans, such as “Work or Bust!” are being circulated, and the people made aware that unless there is response to the call for more production there will be unemployment. If the response is * good then there will be no fear of unemployment. If it is not good, however, there will be unemployment and consequent lower living standards for all.

It is pointed out that the country had to dispose of more than half of its overseas holdings in order to fight the ’war, and ran into debt. The country is still running into debt and cannot continue indefinitely on foreign loans.

Cabinet is meeting to arrange for the reassembly of Parliament which, when it meets, will face up to what will be termed a "Manpower Budget." There are also to be several important Bills, among them transport and electrical power nationalisation. It is believed that these will pass their second reading before Easter.
