MARTON BOWLERS RECEIVE OFFICIAL VISIT FROM WANGANUI CENTRE

Conditions were perfect v.1...i the Wanganui Bowling Centre paid an official visit to the Marton Club during the week-end. Th e green, which was fast and true, and the surroundings were in fine order—a tribute to the green-keeper, Mr. T. C. Rubery. Mr. O. Brabyn, president of the local club, extended a hearty welcome to the .visitors, expressing a wish that th P visit woull be the forerunner ot many such functions.

Mr. C. H. Clinkard, president of the Wanganui Centre, who headed the official party, expressed his thanks to the club for extending such a heartj welcome to his teams. Transport was still difficult and he thanked the members of his team who had supplied the transport on this occasion. He expressed a hope that the country clubs would have their competitions finalised in good time to play the finals on the respective greens on the dates ai ranged by the centre. Box office figures from Britain, America, and Australia all show that the streamlined versions of the old burlesque show can hold its own with the screen at anytime. It is, of course, a reflection of the general trend back towards "flesh and olood" which has been apparent for the past year or two. At the conclusion of the South Isk 1 d tour, Marton will be second yrovinc.i.l town to see Mr. Ophir Rees' new revue, “Take It Easy" in the North Island. Box plan is now at Mogridge's for the return visit of Ophir Rees’ Company in "Take It Easy,” which will be presented in the Civic Theatre, Marton, on Wednesday, January 22. (POST OFFICE STAFF SOCIAL AND DANCE. A very enjoyable evening was held by ail tiiose who attended the Post Office staff social and dance held in the Druids' Hall last week. Mr. Elwin (Feiiding) supplied the music and Mr. S. Hurley officiated as M.C. Opportunity was taken during the evening to larewell Miss O. Hegglun, who has been transferred to Wellington. Miss I-iegglun wa s presented with a hanging mirror and the speakers were Mr. A. Bannister, acting postmaster, and Mr. W. C. Higginson, supervisor of tile telegraph branch, v/ho referred to Miss Hegglun's happy association with the Marton staff. The guest of the evening suitably replied. Items were given by Miss E. Rankin (vocal), Mr. K. Neilson (magic and conjuring) and Mr. J. Russell (humorci',., recitation;. Novelty dances were won by the following:—Lucky spot, Mr. and Mrs. N.
