COUPON AND FAT SAVING BEST MEANS TO HELP FEED BRITAIN

’’Although there are many ways we can help send food lo Britain, coupon conservation and fat saving undoubtedly are those creating the greatest percentage ot overall benelit to the greatest number,” stated Mr. S. Partridge, organiser of the Wanganui Food for Britain campaign, speaking to a large attendance ot the Drama Circle of the Catholic Women’s League at the Savage Club on Thursday night. "It is interesting to note that the normal exports ol meat, butter, and cheese provide the annual ration for nearly 12,000,000; 24,000,000 and 20,000,000 British respectively. Actually we export 85-87 per cent, of our cheese production but Britain needs it all. "She alone has 48,000,000 people to care for, and in addition, is charged with much of the responsibility of at- ’ lending to some of the more urgent cases of starvation on the continent of : Europe. She knows where tne famine conditions are most acute and it is our obvious duty to see that she does not lack supplies,” he said. "By means of rationing, our own Government has done much to make food available for Britain but for obvious reasons, particularly the hard-' ship that is occasioned through the sizes of families and types of occupation, it looks with disfavour upon any possible fruther ’ ghtening up. You are therefore texed to do what you can voluntarily." Mr. Partridge explained that coupons for cancellation in the Food for Britain drive need not be current. "By fat, is meant fat of ail kinds. Clean, rendered carcase fat, rendered fat, and even lhat dripping which may for other purposes have become stale and would otherwise have found its way to the garbage tin. Even it it is only lit for ’soap it is conserving tallow for shipment overseas," Mr. Partridge concluded.
