TAXI DRIVER FINED

PARKED CAR ON RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF ROAD A taxi driver who stopped his cat on the right-hand side of Anzac Parade, above the Aramoho Railway Bridge, early on the morning of October 20, while a pasenger alighted, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, Wanganui, yesterday with failing to keep as far as practicable to the left of the road. Defendant, Mark Twain Sheehy, admitted the offence and was lined £2, costs 10s, by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Senior-Sergeant F. Culloty said that defendant stopped his car at 3.15 a.m. on October 20 in order to allow a passenger for Rangitikei Street to alight. A ear coming from the opposite direction, however, swerved to the left and mounted the footpath, colliding with the stationary taxi. The driver of the car had been charged with driving without due care and attention, but at the request of his counsel the police had agreed to a week’s adjornment, Senior-Sergeant Culloty added. Replying to a question asked by the magistrate, the senior-sergeant explained that there were no houses on the left-hand side of Anzac Parade. Defendant pulled in on his right so as to be near the footpath. It was in the early hours of the morning and dark at the time. The ease was not a serious one. “It may not seem so bad at. that nour of the morning, but this sort of thing would not do in the daytime,” said the magistrate.
