WANGANUI BUTCHER’S £300 MEAT GIFT AID FOR BRITISH PEOPLE
A geneious gift of £3OO worth of meat for Britain had been made by a Wanganui retail butcher, the secretary of the Wanganui Famine Emergency Committee, Mr. S. Partridge, announced yesterday. The meat, had been held in cool storage at the Castlecliff Abattoirs pending a possible shortage of that particular class of meat locally, but was not now required. It has been handed over to tne famine committee, and will be shipped to Britain as soon as possible. * Uplifting of the meat from the abattoirs requires the presentation ot surplus meat coupons, 24,000 in this case,” Mr. Partridge said, “and we appeal to the public of Wanganui to give as many coupons as possible foi this purpose. One coupon from every household in the city would represent £BO, and the total lor the Wanganui postal district would be £l7O. The coupons needed can be obtained in two weeks’ concentrated effort.” Mr. Partridge added that coupons would be received at the Post Oilice, or al the usual stall outside the D.I.C. on Wednesday* The meat which has been given consists of 30 hindquarters of beef, 30 forequarters of beef, 14 ewe and seven hogget carcases. It will be sent to the Overseas Gift Allocation Centre, Ministry of Food, London, for distribution. The meat will mean extra meat for several thousand people in Britain.
