WORK IN VARIOUS RIDINGS ENGINEER’S MONTHLY REPORT. Further investigations had been made with a view to more comprehensive water supply being provided for the Rata rehabilitation farm settlement area, stated the county engineer. Mr. S A. R. Mair, in his monthly report to the Rangitikei County Council at its meeting in Marton yesterday. In a detailed report on work carried out during October in the various ridings, the engineer stated that the sealed surface of the Marton-Curls Bridge Road (Rangitoto Riding) had been repaired. General maintenance had bce i carried out by surfacemen and grader on all roads in this riding. “At long last,” the engineer added, “men have been obtained to clear the Raumai drain in order to eliminate the flooding of valuable farmz.” A washout on the Turakin n s ''' ' Road (Otakapu Riding) at Baldwin's had been repaired, and in the Porewa Riding the Tutaenui, Jeff er soil’s. Fern Flats, Makirikiri East and Wing's Roads had been trimmed by grader. Narrow places on Brice's Road had been widened by grader. Several washouts which occurred on the Mangahoe Road (Wangaehu Riding) had been repaired. The grader had trimmed the Turakina Valley Road from Sutherland’s to Braemore, and also the Mangahoe Road. Slips and washouts in various parts of the riding had received attention. Further portions of the Ngei Road (Rangitira Riding) had been broken up, reformed and dressed with chips. A washout on the West Road (Otairi Riding) had been repaired. In the Te Kapua Riding, moderate slios on Murray’s Track and Turakina Valley Roads had been cleared. “Extensive poolars have been planted on the road sides in parts of this riding and are taking well,” the engineer added. “Willow and poplar plantations recently made in Mickleson’s and Lock’s gullies have also taken well and promise to be effective in modifying wholesale slumping of lanct
