BUSH FIRES RAGE IN N.S.W.

VILLAGES ENDANGERED I Recd. 8.35 p.m. Sydney, Nov. 7 ■ Huge bushfires, raging in dried out forest country between Kempsey and Armidale, in northern New South Wales, have gained complete control and volunteers have been withdrawn from one because of danger. The two fires have gutted five houses already. An elderly man was badly burned while fighting to save his cottage. The Armidale police realised that the fight was useless and hurriedly evacuated all people from scattered homes in the path of the blaze. Many cottages and one village were saved by the efforts of volunteers. Breaks are being cut and reports late this afternoon indicate that the fires may be dying out.
