WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (0.C.) Mangaweka, Nov. 5. Because of the absence of the president al the monthly meeting of the Women's Institute, Mrs. T. W. Pairman presidedl The afternoon’s theme was an international one, and the motto along these lines was given by Mrs. H. Waymouth. The “Golden Thread,’’ which was read by Mrs. L. Moyle, was “Women of Different Countries,” also a ieport of the meeting of International Women which was held recently in Switzerland. A full report of the bi-annual meeting of the council meeting held in Taihape was given by Mrs. Pairman. The afternoon concluded with a number of songs of different countries, sung by the local choir. The competitions, which had a number of very good entries, resulted as follows:—Premier flower, Mrs. D. Barrell 1, Mrs. Dickson 2, Miss Sweet 3; vegetable. Mrs. T. W. Pairman 1, Mrs. T. Hammond 2, Mrs. Barrell 3; decorative saucer, Mrs Dickson 1, Mrs. Pairman 2; six heaviest eggs, Mrs. Dickson 1, Miss Sweet 2, Mrs. S. Dickenson 3. RED CROSS COMMITTEE. The local branch of the Red Cross held a committee meeting this after-noon,-with the president, Mrs. T. Pairman, in the chair, In her report the president stated that six tins of fat had been forwarded to Wellington for the Fat for Britain appeal, and that four cartons of clothes had also gone down to C.0.R.5.0. It was decided that a further sum of £2O should be allotted to the Aid For China campaign, and that anothe • drive for clothes shall be made before Christmas.
