WAIMATE RIDER WINS 100 MILES CYCLE RACE
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP TO R. H. KNIGHT FIELD OF 67 COMPETE. (P.A.) Christchurch, Oct. 6. Riding off the 34 minute mark, H. B. Chamberlain (Waimate) was first to finish in the South Island 100 mile road cycle race from Timaru to Christchurch yesterday, R. H. Knight (Christchurch) off 5 minutes, secured fastest time and the South Island Championship Sixty-seven riders were sent away by the Mayor of Timaru (Mr. A. E. S. Hannan) at intervals from J).30 a.m., until the scratch men set on on their long journey at 0.35. Conditions were favourable for the first part of the journey, the wind being at the rider’s backs, but they had it in their faces from Ashburton onwards. The detailed results were:—

Omin. 40sec., 7; R. Hubbard, Rangiora (39min.>, shr. llmin., 40 l-ssec., 8; L. Arnst, Opawa (52min.), shr. 25min. ssec., 9; R. Arnst, Christchurch (32min.,) shr. smin. 15sec., 10. Fastest times were gained by the following:—R. H. Knight, Christchurch (smin.) 4hr. 42min. ssec, 1; J. C. Bicknell, Auckland (smin.) 4hr. 42min. 51-ssec., 2; M. G. Drake, Christchurch (smin.), 4hr. 42min. 6sec.. 3. L. Hubbard, Rangiora (28min.) secured fastest time for juniors with shr. Omin. 40 l-ssec.
