OHAKUNE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL
JUBILEE BOOKLET PUBLISHED
HISTORY OF SCHOOL AND TOWN. (0.C.) Ohakune, Oct. 4. To commemorate the golden jubilee of the Ohakune District High School, a booklet containing a wealth of information about the history of the school and the surrounding district of Ohakune has been published under the auspices of the jubilee committee. Elaborate preparations are in hand tor the celebrations, which will be held at the Labour week-end this month. It is expected that more than 600 former pupils will be present from all parts of the Dominion. The title of the jubilee booklet is "A Mountain and a School.” As its name implies, tire publication is in part a history of the school, and in part a history of the town, lying at ihe foot of the sentinel of the Waimarino district, Mt. Ruapehu. In the school section of the book high tributes are paid to the memory of the late Mr. T. A. Blylh, who for 31 years, guided the destiny of the school. "Joey," as he was known from one end of the country to the other, was a great personality. As is stated In the booklet, “his memory is kept alive in the hearts of those who came under his influence"
"A Mountain and A School,” is an excellent publication. Its contents cover every field of activity in the district over the past 50 years. It is the story of pioneers who felled the bush for a settlement which is to-day the centre of a prosperous farming district.
All associated with the compilation of “A Mountain and a School" have every reason to be proud of a task well done.
Full credit is due to the editors, Messrs. A. J. Beckham and G. F. Sargeant.
