VOTE LABOUR—AND LEAD A DOG’S LIFE!
Sir, —In one of Wanganui's suburbs 10-day a little white fox terrier was to be seen busily going about the street, popping in and out of entrances, investigating rubbish tins and gateposts. It was quite happy in an aimlesss sort of way, as dogs are when allowed a little unexpected freedom. This little dog had no particular aim in life—it was well fed, probably lived in a good kennel, and accepted gratefully what affection its owner cared to bestow upon it. It was, in tact, a very ordinary little fox terrier, except for one thing. Neatly stencilled on both its clean white sides were the words “Vote Labour.”
Many a true word is spoken in jest —or written. Little did the loving hand that wrote those words on the fox terrier think of all they implied—vote Labour, and lead a dog’s life! I am sorry for the dog, being thus unwittingly made a member of the Labour Party, but lam grateful to him for the warning. There is, maybe, some truth in advertising, after all.—l am, etc., “SPECTATOR.”
