BOARD CHAIRMAN REGRETTED THERE WAS NO AGREEMENT

(P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 4. Commeifting to-night on the increased price for butterfat announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Roberts, Mr. W. E. Hale, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, said: “I must express, on behalf of the Dairy Industry Costs Committee, our disappointment at having failed to reach an agreement in our negotiations with the Stabilisation Commission and the Government. In our negotiations we made it clear to the Government that the dairy industry was fully prepared to leave the major part of the recent increase of 4d per lb butterfat received in the dairy produce price from Great Britain in the Dairy Industry Stabilisation Account in the interests of national stabilisation. Our assessment of the 1 appropriate farm and, factory costs allowance for the 1946-47 season was based on a minimum increase necessary, in our opinion, to enable the farmers to attract and hold farm labour, and to bring dairy farms into full scale production as rapidly as possible. This increased production is obviously the immediate need of Great Britain and the national responsibility of New Zealand?
