ALKALISATION PLANT EXPLODES; KILLS TWO INJURES 200
Recd. 10.40 p.m. New York, Oct. 4. Two were killed and 200 injured hi three explosions which set fire to the Sun Oil Company’s 1,300,000 dollar alkalisation plant on the Delaware River, states a message from Marcushook, Pennsylvania. An eye-witness, describing the blast, said a huge ball of fire seemed to roll around, hit and ignite every building. The first explosion occurred at 6.10 p.m. yesterday, followed by minor explosions of tanks and cylinders. The second explosion came an hour later and shook an area 15 miles in diameter. Tankers in the river hastily withdrew. Ambulances and fire-fighters from all the surrounding communities were called up, and the fire was reported to be under control by 10.15 p.m.
