Having completed 40 years' service in the Post and Telegraph Depart- ! ment, Mr. E. S. Worthington, of the staff of the Raetihi Post Office, has retired from the service. Last night he was the guest of honour at a farewell function which was largely attended by all sections of the community. The deputy Mayor, Mr. A. E. Urwin, presided inthe absence of the Mayor, Dr. W. J. Feltham, who is indisposed. In presenting Mr. Worthington with a monetary gift, Mr. Urwin extolled Mr. Worthington’s long association with the Raetihi Post Office which covered a period of 26 consecutive years. He said their guest was a zealous citizen and for the community of Raetihi wished Mr. Worthington and his family a long and happy retirement. Other speakers were Messrs. N. E. Lamont, Postmaster, Raetihi, and D. J. Berry, who spoke for the settlers in lhe Waimarino County. Mr. Worthington, in reply, thanked the speakers for their gift and expressions of goodwill and said he would always retain happy recollections of his stay in Raetihi. After the presentation dancing followed for which music was supplied by Mrs. May Watson and A'lr. Morgan, Ohakune. The M.C. was Mr. J. W. Harris. It is Mr. Worthington's intention *<> reside in Wanganui.
