MEAT STABILISATION ACCOUNT INCREASES

Using conservative figures of 120.000 tons of butter and 95,000 tons of cheese to be exported in 1946-47, it is estimated that the Dairy Stabilisation Account will be increased by approximately £5,250,000, New Zealand currency, this coming year. That amount would be diminished, of course, by any increase in guaranteed price which may be granted the producer in this period. This figure is based on the increases in price of £24 *los sterling per lon for butter and £B9 sterling per ton for cheese announced in the Budget.

Meat export prices have also been increased by per cent- above the 1944-45 and 1945-46 prices. Pig-meat prices have been augmented by 111 ner cent, above the 1945-46 levels. These increments will add approximately £2,000,000, New Zealand currency, to the Meat Stabilisation Account, less any increases in schedule prices which mav be allowed the producer for 1946-47.

Delegates of Federated Farmers who were present at the discussions bn this matter in Britain, state that it is significant that the case for higher prices under the United Kingdom bulk contracts was based on increased costs of production.
