MR. FRASER’S COMMENT

"I think that the Australian results are most encouraging,” said Mr. Fraser, when speaking at Brooklyn last night. As Prime Minister, he added, he did not interfere in the political affairs of another country, but he had worked with the Australian Prime Minister (Mr. Chifley), Dr. Evatt, Mr. Forde, and other Ministers of the Commonwealth, and he appreciated their worth and sincerity. The Prime Minister paid a tribute to Mr. Chifley, who, in spite of the bribes of his opponents, he said, had refused to bribe the people with false promises and had told them the truth. “And the truth prevailed,” the Prime Minister declared. He added: “We must also ensure success here and go one better with an even bigger splendid victory.”

Earlier in his address Mr. Fraser referred to the Labour victory in Australia when dealing with a National Party poster saying that (he people of New Zealand wanted a change of Government.

“I think the people will have something to say about that.” Mr. Fraser commented. “They did in Australia,” he said.
