RETUKN OF GLADYS MOM KIEFF. “The Maid of the Mountains,’’ to be staged here on Wednesday night. July 31„ and "Rio Rita." lo be produced on Thursday evening. August 1. by Gladys Moncrieff and J. C. Williamson's Royal Comic Opera Company, are two of the most successful musical plays ever to have been presented lo playgoers of New Zealand. When they were originally ..tagod Miss Gladys Moncrieff appeared in the leading roles and their outstanding popularity is undoubtedly due to her brilliant artistry and her delightful singing of the solos and concerted numbers attached to her parts. The revival of “The Maid of the Mountains” in Wellington was received with great enthusiasm and .he general opinion expressed was to the effect that Miss Moncrieff’s voice is as good as ever it was and it was heard at its best in the well known number “Love Will Find a Way." Mr. Ormonde Douglas has scored his best success in the character of Baii’.asarres, and others in the cast are Herbert Browne, Fred Murray, Bobbv Mack, Len Gotting Betty Sparks. Percy Martin, and Gloria Lvnch. The present revival of “Rio Rita” is a most lavish production, its new and 'gorgeous costumes, its stage spectacles, and its attractive ballets being among its features.
