EVERY EFFORT BEING MADE TO GET POWER TO HEAT AND LIGHT SHIPS IN PORT

(P.A.) Wellington, July 19. Every endeavour is being made by shipping companies to push ahead with the reticulating of electric power for heating and lighting to ships while in port, according to inquiries made in Wellington to-night. Disagreement was expressed with the Westport seamen's opinion that equipment was available to carry out the work. It. was only recently that some second-hand material of the type necessary for the construction of transformers had been obtained. It was by no means certain there would be sufficient of this secondhand material to complete the necessary work. All the parties concerned in the task of supplying light— heads of shipping companies, harbour boards and contractors—were doing their best to have the work completed.
