SOME FORM OF RECOGNISING THEIR SERVICE. (P.A.) Parliament Bldgs., July 19. The Minister of Defence. Mr. Jones, replying in the House of Representatives to-day to a question by Mr. W. H. Gillespie (Opp., Hurunui), said that the conditions governing the award of the War Medal were prescribed by the British Government, and were uniform throughout the British Commonwealth. While it was not possible to modify locally conditions governing the award of the War Medal to permit it being granted to Home Guardsmen generally, some alternative form of recognition of the service that Home Guardsmen rendered was now receiving the Government’s consideration.
