LAND BALLOT HELD AT OHAKHNE.

SEVERAL SECTIONS NOT TAKEN UP (0.C.1 Ohakune. July 18. The first ballot of land for returned servicemen under the Rehabilitation Department's scheme of land settlement to he held in the Main Trunk area, was held at Ohakune to-day, when the ownership of blocks at Raelihi and Ohakune wa,s decided. Five sections were offered in the Raetihi block, and there were applications f or all of them, but one section was unallocated. This came about by hallotees having an interest in more than one section, and receiving a section befdre this one was balloted for. One serviceman who was a successful ballotee, did not get a section, as he did not want the section which was unclaimed. In all there were eight applications for the five sections. The ballot resulted: Section 11, 203 acres, Mr. J. L. O'Connell, Karioi; section 12, 266 acres, D. A. Loyo, Mangaweka; section 13. 239 acres, J. Briley, Awatea St reel. Palmerston North:

sections 14 end 15 (one *ot). 182 acres, M. W. Bailey, Kakhatau, Mangaweka. Four sections were offered in the Ohakune block, for which there were only two applicants. As one of these was not present, as is required in the conditions of the ballot, only one section was allocated. The successful ballotee was R. J. Locke, Raetihi. who chose section 24, consisting of 296 acres. The ballot was conducted by Mr. W. Groonb idge, of the Land ami Survey Department. Wellington, with representatives of the State Advances Corporation and *hp Land Department.
