ACCOMMODATION FOR TEACHERS
.“Surely it is up to the parents to find accommodation for the teachers if they want the school to bo fully and properly staffed,” said Mr. E. F. Hemingway, chairman, at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui * Education Board, when a request was received from the Piriaka School Committee for the erection of a bach for the assistant teacher in view of boarding difficulties in the district. The board had sufficient difficulty in obtaining teachers for country schools let alone worrying about finding board for them.
“I think in the future it would be a good idea to have portable bachs to be sent from place to place where it is impossible to obtain board for the teachers,” suggested Mr. C. J. Carmine.
The application was declined, it being considered that there was an obligation on the settlers and that a precedent would be started if the board assisted in this case.
