POWER LINES DOWN IN TARANAKI
TELEPHONE SERVICES INTERRUPTED. (P.A.) New Plymouth, June 30. Damage was done In many parts of Taranaki by a strong southerly wind that swept the province throughout the week-end. Electric power failures were general throughout the district, but tney were mostly of a minor nature, caused by trees brought down on the lines, or brushing against them. Many interruptions were caused to telephone services.
R.N.Z.A.F. passenger aircraft services to and from. Auckland and Wellington were cancelled yesterday. The union company’s vessel Karitane, scheduled to leave New Plymouth yesterday for Wellington, was forced to remain in port over the week-end. A sharp fall in temperatures on Saturday afternoon was accompanied by a fall of sleet at New Plymouth.
