VESSEL STILL ADRIFT
Recd. 9 p.m. Sydney, May 22. The deserted trawler Pahau is still reported to be drifting in a gale within 300 miles of Sydney, with ’.he New Zealand Government steamer' Matai ■unable to take her in tow again.
• The Pahau has been adrift for over 24 hours after breaking her tow-rope when being towed from Auckland tc Sydney. A passenger on the Matai radioed Sydney: "We ran into a heavy southerly gale with terrific seas, which caused the Matai to heave to at 11 p.m. Monday. The towline parted at 4 a.m. yesterday, and the Pahau drifted away and turned stern on to the gale, plunging madly in the big seas. The Matai 'steamed slowly into the gale, and we.have been waiting I abatement, so that the tow-line can Ibe taken in, and we can set out in | chase of the Pahau.
