LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR RANGITIKEI

SURPRISE AT MR. 0. WILSON GOING TO PALMERSTON (0.C.) Marton, May 22. The announcement to-day that Mr. Ormond Wilson has been nominated as Labour candidate for the Palmerston North seat came as a mild surprise to electors in Marlon. Three months ago, at a meeting o‘ the Marton branch of the Labour Party, Mr. Wilson and Mr. C, F. Dunn (Marton) were nominated as candidates for the Rangitikei seat. These nominations were later approved by the Rangitikei Representation Committee, the final selection to be made by the New Zealand Labour Party executive in Wellington. Mr. Wilson was formerly M.P. for Rangitikei, but lost his seat to Mr. E. B. Gordon, present National Party candidate, in 1938. Mr. Dunn is a railway shunter and president of the Labour Representation Committee. If Mr. Wilson accepts candidature for Palmerston North and his nomination is approved by the executive, it leaves only Mr. Dunn in the field for Rangitikei. However, there is a possibility of further nominations «eing made as the result of the new electoral boundaries. Districts which were previously included in another electorate may wish to offer a candidate for Rangitikei, once the new branches have been organised. It is understood that the Labour Party is waiting until the new boundaries are finally settled before definitely deciding on a candid?‘ z ' If, as is rumoured, the headquarters of the Rangitikei electorate are transferred to Feildir" then the headquarters of the Rangitikei Rem’esentatio" Committee will likewise be at Feilding.
