TRAINERS’ PRIZE AT FEILDING

The Feilding Jockey Clubs’ competition for trainers proved a feature of the three-day Easter meeting, interest being at the highest pilch prior to the running of the concluding event yesterday. Points were awarded for each of the placings, four for first, two for second, ana one for third. The trainer with most points was to receive £25, the second highest £l5 and the next £lO.

After the seventh race on the third day of the meeting the position was very interesting. A. Griffith (Awapuni) was leading with 15 points, followed by J. G. Farrell (Stratiord) with 13; G. VV. New (Awapuni) with 12J; W. J. McDowell (Marton) with 12; R. Barlow (New Plymouth) with 10; and G, W. B. Greene (Hastings) with 8. New, McDowell, Farrell, Griffith and Greene were all represented in the concluding event, in which there were eight starters. A win for any of the other three would have meant that Griffith would be almost certain to win the competition, unless Farrell’s Autoscore gained second place. As it was, McDowell won with Po Marama. to take the £25. and New’s Theiolyn finished second to give that trainer third place. The points were: McDowell 16: Griffith 15; New 141: Farrell 13. Dutch Mary, trained by Griffith, fell when entering the straight. Autoscore, trained by Farrell, finished fourth.
