SYDNEY CUP WON BY CORDALE
BERNBOROUGH’S EIGHTH SUCCESSIVE WIN Recd. 9.45 p.m. Sydney, April 22. The favourite Cordale won the Sydney Cup al Randwick this afternoon by a long neck from Swan River, with Russia two lengths away third. Swan River led into the straight and was still in front 50 yards from home, but Cordale, who had swept up on the outside, wore him down in the run to the judge. G. Moore rode Cordale exactly as in the shorter races, letting him run along in the last place until the field entered the straight. Cordal? has improved greatly in the last few months and now stands out as one of the best distance horses in commission. He was favourably weighted to-day with 7.7. Craigie, who won the Sydney Cup last year, carried topweight, 9.5, to-day, but faded out before reaching the turn. Bemborough won the All Aged Stakes in a canter from Modulation, with Accession and Don Pedro deadheating for third. It was Bernborough’s eighth consecutive win, bringing his winnings to more than £lO,OOO. The C. W. Cropper Handicap was won by Earl Pentheus, who streaked away in the straight to win by five lengths from Cragsman. The attendance to-day was estimated at 75,000. The principal results were:—
