HOLIDAYS AND HOLY DAYS OBSERVED Wanganui can sav to-day ’hat it was a well-balanced Easter. The first dav of the holidays was wet and miserable, but there followed two per-, feet autumn days—bright sun, cloudless skies and only a teasing breeze 1 which encouraged people to dress up, go forth and enjoy themselves. I On Saturday the hundreds of visitors who had gathered In Wanganui for the holiday period began to move around the beauty spots, and trams to Castlecliff and Aramoho, up-river excursions and private car rides to some of the outer rural districts not covered by public transport gave the local■ inhabitants an acquaintance with their other North Island neighbours which they would not ordinarilv have. But Wanganui was not being entirenarochial. Ils citizens also were going “abroad,” and cars, trains and buses took them to holiday resorts north, south, east and west. Many of them went to the races at Feilding and Hawera, while numerous others had ceogranhical and financial adventures by trying follow their fortunes beside the radio.
