The average earnings of more than 5,250,000 manual workers in Britain, men and boys, women and girls, in the 'manufacturing industries and in some principal non-manufacturing industries rose by 80 per cent, between October, 1938, the latest pre-war date for which figures are available, and July 21, last year.
