RAILWAY PICNIC

ENJOYABLE OUTING AT RAORIKIA

Wanganui railwaymen relaxed yesterday, and with their wives and families had an outing at Raorikia, 14 miles up-river. The occasion the revival of the annual pic L, organised by members of the ..locomotive staff, assisted by other branches. It was the first gathering of its kind .‘ince 1939. The day was warm and sunny with a refreshing westerly wind. Two river vessels, including the veteran paddle-steamer Waimarie, were required to transport more than 800 people' to the picnic ground. The outing was particularly enjoyable for the children, who received lioeral issues of ice-cream, fruit and soft drinks. The picnic was well organised, and the sports programme provided for the interests of everybody present.
