AUCKLAND ROSPECTS

SMALL FIELDS IN MAIN EVENTS <Special) Auckland, March 8. Small fields will be seen out in the three open races at Ellerslie on Saturday, but the hack events, the hurdles and the two-year-old contest will draw plenty of runners. The rain over last week-end has not continued, but. it has eased the track a good deal. Of the eight left in the big event, the Bledisloe Handicap, Gay Lally seems to be outstanding. Possible dangers are Gold Dash, narrowly beaten in last week’s Franklin Cup, and the improving three-year-old King’s Pride. The horses engaged in the City Handicap are an even lot, with Kindroon. St. Leon, ?4y Bonnie, Black Ace, Regal March and Sweet Biscuit the pick. The first three appeal most. If reserved for the Salisbury Handicap, Kindroon will be hard to beat. The three-year-old Balmacara will appeal, despite his impost, and Black Ace. Royal Merit and Dougal should also go well. The following may be well supported:—

Percival Handicap.—Jovial Song, Last Sign, Beryl Fox. Mt. Wellington Hurdles.—Varuna (or Centennial), Kouraeka, Our Nation. First Buckland Handicap. Sublime Fox, Honora, Land Ruler. Bledisloe Handicap.—Gay Lally, Gold Dash. King’s Pride. Ascot Handicap.—Majesty, Sweet Girl, Beau le Havre. Second Buckland Handicap. Battle Royal.*Bycroft. Land Warden. City Handicap.—Kindroon (or My Bonnie. St. Leon, Regal March. Salisbury Handicap.—Kindroon, Black Ace, Balmacara. Following are the fields:— 11.42 PERCIVAL HANDICAP. .£601); 1 mile.
