APPEAL TO RETAILERS
RESUME HOME DELIVERIES (P.A.) Welling.on, March 8. “The Government will give every encouragement to butchers, bakers, grocers and other retailers to resume their pre-war retail delivery services as soon as they posibly can.” When making this announcement to-day, the Minister of Transport, Ivir. O’Brien, said the Government was anxious to relieve housewives and the public of the great burden of “latching and carrying,” which they were still bearing because retail deliveries were not being operated. “I reali e,” said the Minister, “that some retailers are hampered because of difflcuiiies relating to vans, tyres and manpower, but I would appeal to all who are in a position to do so to revive their delivery services. I am sure in. the long run they will find it sound business to have done so. The retailer who neglects his customers to-day cannot complain if they neglect him to-morrow. “Many people s'ill thintc that retail deliveries are being withheld because of Government restrictions, but I would point out that the restrictions on these services were lifted last September. Since then the resump ion of delivery services has been in .he hands of retailer, subject, of course, to the difficulties I have referred to.”
