Williamson's famous Royal Comic Opera Company, headed by the most beloved of all operatic stars, Gladys Moncrieff, is to appear here at t' e Opera House on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, March 26 and 27, in "Viktoria and Her Hussar" and “The Merry Widow.” in both of which Miss Moncrieff and her supporting artists broke all known records at His Majesty's Theatre, in Auckland. It is some years since we last enjoyed the privilege of witnessing Gladys Moncrieff on the stage, but we have hearu her glorious voice from the various broadcasting stations One of her outstanding successes has been achieved in the role of Viktoria in "Viktoria and Her Hussar," two of her best solos in it being “Land of Song" and “Good Night." Herbert Browne's splendid tenor voice is heard at its best in both of the operas to be staged here, and Fred Mun ay, a brilliant young light comedian and dancer, made himself immensely popular with Auckland playgoers. Miss Miram Lester is a charming soprano, and the principal comedians are Bobby Mack and Len oGtling. Betty Spark, is Australia’s favourite soubrette, and Ormonde Douglas is a distinguished baritone There are no less than 120 people in the company, including a full operatic chorus and orchestra, and a bevy of lovely ballerinas. The box plans for both operas will be opened at the D.I.C. on Thursday, March 21.
