Miss JUNE BENSON THE D.I.C.’S MAIL ORDER SHOPPER SAYS—GOOD MORNING, OUT-OF-TOWN FRIENDS, Now, who was it that wrote — "Welcome to you, rich Autumn days, Ere comes the cold le'af-picking winds." I think it was W. H. Davies, wasn't it? Anyhow, many of you will probably know better than I do There have been so many poems written about. Autumn, haven’t there? And it’s not to be wondered at, either. Autumn, with its vivid kaleidoscope of colour, its brilliant reds and golds and rich browns, provides inspiration for anyone poetically inclined. But fear not. I am not about to burst forth into Autumnal praise either in poetry or prose—l’m afraid I cannot aspire to such heights of literature. However, I can perhaps tell you a little of what our Store looks like now that all the glamorous new season’s highlights are displayed in every department. You know, the past week or two has been really most exciting for me. Whenever I’ve heard the intriguing rustle of tissue paper or the tantalizing snapping of string I’ve been quite unable to resist the temptation of peeping behind the scenes. It’s fun to see, emerging from prosaic and every-day boxes, the most gorgeous little hat or a breath-takingly beautiful frock—a pair of dainty shoes such as one dreams of, or a coat that you’ve seen pictured in "Vogue.”

And talking of coats—this season the D.l.C.’s Autumn and Winter collection of coats is something worth seeing. I had a look round the numerous racks yesterday—there are the new Teddy Bear cloth coats, Boxy coats, Tailored coats, all In those glorious Autumn tonings that are so flattering—and luxurious furs that will definitely take pride of place in your wardrobe this year. And the- prices—they range from £6/11/6 I also noticed some very snappy styles in suits—just quietly, we're very proud of our suits this Autumn. If you walk up the Avenue people will turn’ and 'say, “Yes, that’s definitely a D.I.C. mantailored suit!” You see, they have that Fashion look, that well-dress-ed, well-groomed look that is associated with Wanganui’s leading Fashion Store. The prices are from £4/-/-Of course, you all know the importance of accessories—especially the importance of the right pair of shoes with an ensemble. And our Shoe Department is brimful of the very smartest and newest shoe styles in the makes that everyone knows so well. Prices are irom 39/6 Gloves! They've arrived from England in their zinc-lined boxes just in time for Autumn and they’re the most thrilling English tailored gloves that we've seen for many a day. You'll love them, I know—we can show them to you in all types of skins and all colours. Priced from only

Those of you who have already visited our Store will agree with me when I say that our millinery this year is just like a story-book .—nevpr have I seen such exciting colours, glamorous shapes, such attention to minute detail, such beauty of styling. My word, hats are certainly out to charm this Autumn. By the way, I wonder if you realize just how fortunate Wanganui is to have the D.I.C. in its midst—not only have we branches in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, but we also boast a wonderful overseas Buying Organisation in London, Canada and America. Through these offices, you are kept right up-to-the-min-ute as far as fashion in the world markets is concerned. And equally important, because of this tremendous buying organisation, we can naturally sell for less. Now, remember, everyone—WATCH OUR ADVERTISEMENTS for news of all those commodities in short supply that our overseas oilices will be sending us—those things for which everj<one is clamouring nowadays. Well, once again I have reached the end of the column—it doesn't seem very long when there's so much to talk about - so until next week, cheerio, and good shopping at the D.I.C.
