FINAL GALLOPS AT TRENTHAM , Wellington, March 7. The track was greasy, although hard underneath, for operations at Trentham this morning. The Auckland visitor,' Cowper, worked quite impressively over seven furlongs in 1.31, and Irish Note showed his customary brilliance over a mile in 1.43 4-5. Gay Stroller and Master Dash were the first to work, the pail’ running six furlongs on the course proper, the last five in 1.5. All the fast work was done on this track.

Scroll and Champa Kalee ran an easy hall-mile in 54 l-ssec. Omit jumped away ahead of Caithness, but Ihe latter finished full of running to be on terms before the post was reached, to complete the half-mile in 49 4-ssec. The Monarch infused a lot of dash into his work when he led Hormuz home at the end of a mile in 1.50, the last half-mile in 53sec. Blue Bonny showed her customary brilliance by* completing half a mile in under 48 3-ssec, time that was not improved upon later. Blue Simon appeared to be travelling very comfortably half a length in front of Prince Fox at the close ot five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, coming in the last half-mile in 52sec.

The Autumn Handicap candidate Palfrey drew right away from Bitter Sweet at the close of a mile task, the last seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5, alter running from the seven to the half-mile peg in 39 4-ssec. Lord Elgin was well clear of Kincrop at the end of six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, the last half-mile in 52 3-5 sec. The former went well. Spiora and Peculate were on terms throughout in tneir six-furlong task, coming home the last half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Karachi, who annears to have become more solid, was Have Hing nicely alongside of Opulent ai the close of five furlongs,, run in 1.4 2-5. They 'came home the last half-mile in 49 3-ssec.

Theio Light held off Balcherrie at the end of seven furlongs, Court. Judge being two to three lengths 'back, to complete six furlongs in 1.20, the last half-mile being run in 52sec.

Matador, alone, ran a mile in 1.46 *2-5, the first half in 54 2-5, and the last half in 52sec. Foxhaven, who was first worked on the sand, later jumped away at the seven-furlong post to pick up s>wingalong along the back. Thereafter the pair kept together, to come home the last half-mile in 53sec, Foxhaven taking 1.34 for the full journey. Looking a picture, Al-Sirat drew clear of Leighon’s Glory turning for home, and was travelling well within himself at the close of his half-mile in 53sec. High Order, who followed, registered 55sec. Grill and Patmos kept on terms throughout five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, the last half-mile being run in 51 3-5 sec. Barrage and Montosorrie crossed the line on terms, Gynerio being beaten off, at the end of a mile in 1.54 2-5, the first half-mile in 52sec. Yalta broke away ahead of Flying Robin, but the latter was on terms at the post after running half a mile in 52sec.

Although reluctant to gallop, Benbecula responded to the urging of his rider to speed up and run in from the half-mile post in 50 2-ssec, an excellent effort under the circumstances. Big Money and Foxcatcher waged a keen duel over the final furlong for the pair to cross on terms, the five furlongs being run in 1.4 2-5, and the last half-mile in 50 l-ssec. The Thompson Handicap favourite, Irish Note, showed that he had lost none of his brilliance that brought him so much into prominence at the Wellington summer meeting, by hitting out in good style over a mile in 1.43 4-5, coming home the last halfmile in 51 4-ssec. Although reputed to be a dry-trade horse, he handled (he going excellently. Malanui shaped attractively by holding off Donegal Bay, with Martial Note a couple of lengths back, at the close of half a mile run in 49 2-ssec. The stablemates Da Vinci and Carnforth were partners over an easy seven furlongs in 1.36, running the last half in 52sec. Da Vinci was doing it nicely, but Carn forth also impi essed. Centime, a southern lightweight who was Io have contested Ihe Railway Handicap, has broken down, and was withdrawn from all her engagements at 2.15 p.m. yesterday.
