FRENCH CRITICISM
LEFT-WING VIEWPOINT Reed. 6 p.m. London, March .6. French Left Wing newspapers criticise Mr. Churchill’s speech on two main grounds: first, that it imperils peace by suggesting division between the Allies; and second, that it is an attempt to persuade the United States to take over the defence of the British Empire. Right Wing papers praise the idea of a strong Anglo-Saxon combination outweighing the power of Russia. A spokesman at the Italian Foreign Office, interviewed on Mr. Churchill’s ipeech, said Italy only asked for the privilege of being permitted not to
take sides. Italy's wish was for a modest policy of independence—a policy contrary to the formation of a blcc.
The Moscow radio and newspapers had not mentioned Mr. Churchill’s speech up to this afternoon.
