CHILDREN RESCUED FROM FLAMES
MOTHER WENT SHOPPING (P.A.) Dunedin, March 6. Two children, one about 18months old and the other about 2£ years, were rescued from a burning house in the north end of the city this morning by the City Fire Brigade, while a third child, slightly older, managed to make his own exit through a window. The children had been left in their beds by their mother, who locked the house and went shopping. The brigade received a call 21 minutes after noon and found the 6-roomed wooden structure in Castle Street, near Dundas Street, on fire, the outbreak having occurred in the kitchen. The brigade was informed that there were children in the house and immediately set about bringing them out, while a lead of hose was being brought into action. Breaking through a window the firemen found the youngest child asleep in bed. Then the front door was burst in and another child was found in another bedroom. Meanwhile the third child had managed to get out of the place through a window.
