There were many pleasant gatherings.c.n board the hosp.tai ship Oranje. One of the last occasions on which all the ship's staff gathered together was at the wedding in Melbourne of Isabel McNiven, of Wanganui, to Mr. M. Jackson, a Scottish orderly of the R.A.M.C. staff. They had been engaged a few weeks, and when they discovered that the nursing unit, would be leaving the ship at Melbourne, decided on a service wedding.

Attended by two of their shipmates, and wearing their smart uniforms, they were married at a pretty little phurch in Ivanhoe. Guests at the ceremony were all service personnel, Dutch, English and New Zealand members of the ship’s staff. Afterwards the bridal party were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Goodey, formerly of Wanganui. The br.de and bridegroom went on to the hospital ship later to see a fellow “Kiwi,” who was ill and unable to attend the wedding, and to whom the bride presented her bouquet. Shortly after the wedding the bridegroom returned with the ship to England. and the bride, who has returned to Wanganui, hopes her husband will be able to get passage to New Zealand soon after he has been demobilised in England. The V.A.D.’s who returned to New Zealand by the Athlone Castle said they had been so far that they were keen to finish the course and go to Japan. “We’ve had a remarkably interesting time since joining the hospital staff of the Oranje, and the breaking up of the ship’s company was sad and disappointing,” said one of the girls. The people in Australia had given them a good time during the two months of waiting for transport home. They visited many different parts of the country and some of them travelled by air to Tasmania and other places. They had been entertained lavishly by Australians in their homes.
