NO IMMEDIATE RELIEF
AUSTRALIAN CONTROLS ON BEER AND TOBACCO
Rec. 6 p.m. Melbourne Jan. 15. There are no immediate pro.pects of the restrictions on beer and tobacco being lifted, according to the Customs Minister, Mr. Keane, who said he had not yet even considered the idea. He would not comment on a statement by the Minister for Commerce and Agriculture, Mr. Scully, that, the barley harvest was satisfactory, or on a report that the brewers had adequate stocks.
In Sydncx the acting Collector of Customs stated in a leUer to the Licensed Victuallers’ Association that the special industrial beer allowances will be withdrawn from hotels wnich do not serve beer between 4.30 p.m. and G p.m. trom Mondays to Fridays. The special Id per cent, industrial allowance to hotels in the meuopolitan area was granted to as-'ist licensees to cater for Ihe wants of workers and the public generalls.
