RETURN TO WANGANUI

COLONEL H. D. ROBERTSON

After being absent from Wanganui for six and a-half years, apart from a brief visit, Colonel H. D. Robertson, N.Z.M.C., returned this week by the Otranto. He was accompanied by Mrs Robertson, who was engaged on war work during her stay in England.

Dr. Robertson was in practice In Wanganui before the war. He left New Zealand in August, 1939, with Mrs. Robertson, and intended doing post-graduate work in England. They were on board ship, however, when war broke out. After the 2nd. Echelon arrived in England, Dr. Robertson joined the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. as a medical officer and during his six and a-half years overseas served in England, Italy and Egypt. For some time he was in charge of the Warbrook Convalescent Home In Eversley, Hampshire, near Aidershot. Later he served with the No. 3 General Hospital at Bari, Italy, subsequently taking over command of the No. 5 General Hospital at Helwan, near Cairo.

When the No. 2 General Hospital was subsequentlv established in Helwan, Colonel Robertson transferred his command.

Mrs. Robertson remained in England throughout the war period. On one occasion, Colonel Robertson paid a brief visit to New Zealand. Both art now back in Wanganui.
