VICE-REGAL. The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, has arrived at Turangi from Auckland to spend about a week fishing in the Lake Taupo area. His Excellency is accompanied by his two daughters, Misses D. and G. Newall, and by his aide-de-camp, Major H. A. Jaffrey. They are staying at the Bridge Fishing Lodge.

Mr. H. J. McPhail has been appointed manager for New Zealand for tne Australian Provincial Assurance Association Limited.

Mr. W. H. Kindle, of Wellington, president of the Associated Chambers cf Commerce of New Zealand, left on Monday for a month’s business visit to Australia.

Mr. W. Stanley Coppin has been appointed secretary to the Wellington cmitre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.

Mr. G. Peacock, 18 years as manager for New Zealand for the Australian Provincial Assurance Association Limited, has retired. He leaves New Zealand this week to reside in Sydney. Viscount. Bledisloe, a former Governor-General of New Zealand, has accepted the presidency of the Royal Agricultural Society of England for the next. year. He was GovernorGeneral of New Zealand from 1930 to 1935. Viscount Bledisloe is a trustee of the society and a life member by ex imination.

Mr. Kieth Priscott, of Hamilton, who has been serving with the Merchant Navy, has been granted a scholarship by the New Zealand Government for two years’ voice training at Trinity College, London. Mr. Priscott is at present on his way from Italy to London. Mr. F. J. Payne, late deputy-regis-trar of the Supreme Court, Wanganui, and Mr. A. R. Lowe, who was drowned under tragic circumstances at Castlecliff Beach on Sunday, were referred to at a committee meeting of the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Public Service Association. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried.
