SANSON NOTES

SUCCESSFUL R S.A. QUEEN CARNIVAL (0.C.) Sanson, Jan. 14. The efforts of the committee sponsoring Miss Richardson s campaign in the R.S.A. Queen Carnival are certainly being repaid for their work by the support given by the public. The dance held on New Year’s Eve in the Sanson Hall saw a record crowd present and the function was one which will be remembered for years 1g come. Almost £lOO was received in admission charges, which eclipsed any previous door takings in the district for a function of this nature. The large crowd taxed the dancing floor to capacity but no one seemed to mind the crush. The hall was gaily decorated and streamer, confetti and novelty dances were the order of the night. At one minute to midnight Mr. Alan Harrison, representing 1945, was evicted from the stage by Father Time (Mr. J. Currie) and as the band chimed twelve the dancers spontaneously linked hands and joined in the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Under the spirited music of a professional orchestra dancing continued till o o’clock in the morning, and even then patrons seemed reluctant to leave. A further function held during last week was again well patronised, visitors being present from Palmerston Not th, Marton, Feilding, Foxton ano cmer surrounding towns. At the present time the Rongotea and Sanson candidates are equal at the top of the poll, but it is anticipated that the local queen will have a clear-cut lead by the end of the week, and this the committee are confident will be the ultimate position on coronation night. Euchre tournaments are being conducted on Saturday nights, and excellent points prizes are being offered at the end of the series.
