LIVESTOCK MARKETS

VALUES AT ADDINGTON (P.A.) Christchurch, Jan. 9There were increased entries of fat stock at Addington to-day. Fat cattle made recent values, and fat wethers also maintained late prices, but ewes showed a decline of about 2s 6d a head on last week's sale. Fat lambs dropped to near export schedule, and mostly were taken by freezing buyers. A large yarding of store lambs sold freely. Entries lor all classes of stock included several drafts from Marlborough, which were railed through yesterday.

Fat Sheep.—An entry of 4200, against 3300 last week. Generally last week s prices lor wethers were maintained, but aged ewes dropped by up to 2s 6d a head, except for occasional drafts of best quality, medium-weight

sheep. Two-.ooth wethers were in strong demand, the highest price being 57s 7d, and there were other sales nearing the 50s mark. The best older wethers made to 53s 4d. Best aged ewes sold to 30s Id for a small pen, but prices generally ranged from 18s to 22s for this clas.

Store Sheep.—An entry of 4050. against 7j2 last week. The entry comprised mostly new season's iambs which attracted a large attendance ana sold readily at good prices. The highest prices was 245, and others made from 20s 9d to 23s 3d. One line ol two-tooth wethers made 28s lid, others from 24s 9d to 26s 6d. A pen of Romney two-tooth ewes sold for 35s 9d, and halfbreds made 34s 6d. Several drafts ot aged ewes from Marlborougn were forward, these selling from 8s lOd to 15s 6d,

f at Cattle.—An entry of 260, compared witli 409 last ween. The auction of a numper of outstanding lines iroin distant parts drew considerable attention to the sale. There was a preponderance ot mediocre cattle, wnich accounted for keener competition tor better grade stock, thereby maintaining values at last week's levels, in spite of the improved supply. Heifers were in more limited supply than usual, and with handy weignt steers, attracted spirited competition from butchers preferring inis class to heavier beef. Best beef was jjrm at 54s per 1001 b., good at 51s and medium to 475, but tne best cow beef slipped somewhat to 465, and secondary cow beet wgs down to 30s. Values were: Extra prime steers, to 126 17s 6d; prune, £l9 10s to £2l 17s 6d; prune medium weight, 117 19s; ordinary, to £l5; extra prime heifers. £l6 to £l7 12s 6d; prime, £l4 17s 6d to £l5 17s 6d; medium, £ll to £l2 10s; prime cows, lo £l3 17s 6d; medium cows, £b to £9; light cows, £6 to £7. Store Cattle There was little to attract attention in the store cattle pens apart from one line ot two to three-year-old Hereford steers, which sold tor £l2. Black and white steers sold for £6 18s 6d to £7 13s 6d. The usual repiesentation ol cows sold al recent rates.

Fat Pigs.—The porker entry was much larger than last week, values being easier by 4s to 5s a head. Choppers were in medium supply, and competition was keen, values being better by approximately £1 a head. In the bacon section the yarding was heavy and the sale erratic, excepting medium weights,, which maintained last weeks levels. Over weights were not wanted, and values for these eased by IDs a head. The average price per lb. was Bid to 9ld.

WANGANUI SALE

FAT SHEEP FIRM The opening sale of the year brought forward an entry ol 1501) store sheep and 2500 lambs report Freeman R. Jackson and Co. on the Wanganui stock sale held yesterday. There was a good attendance. Fat sheep were firm at late rates. Little interest was taken in store sheep and sales were hard to effect. Lambs good forward woolly wether lambs and Down cross lambs, sold well under quite good competition, but medium small, or any lambs lacking condition were hard or sale. Fat catile were at late rates, slightly better than export values, with no enquiry for a light entry of store cattle. There was little demand for a light entry of pigs, with an exceptionally keen 'sale lor vealers. Prices:—

MARTON SALE

The N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Dist. Co. Ltd., report on ilie Marton sale as follows: “We yarded 870 lambs, including a line of 422 woolly b.f. fd. Jambs. These were only of medium size and were passed at 17s 6d. The balance of 449 included a line of 122 small ewe lambs which sold al Ils 9d. Considering it was the first sale of the season it must, be regarded a) satisfactory. Prices:—Medium woolly b.f. lambs 14s 9d, email ewe lambs Ils 9d, medium w. lambs Us Id, cull woolly b.f. lambs 6s 4d to 8s 6d, euil ewe lambs 3s 2d, cull w. lambs 45.“
