MARTON NOTES

LABOUR PARTY DANCE

On the night of Saturday, January 5, the Victory Hall, Marton, was ihe rendezvous for a most enjoyable and happy time for all dance enthusiasts. The occasion was the Labour Party’s dunce. A la-ge crowd attended and danced till midnight to mu-ic supplied by Pompey Durie’s popular dance hand, which supplied firs -class music under the best possible conditions. There were present a number of couples from as far afield as Wanganui and Palmer-ton Norli. The Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Mr. and Mrs. Gardner, and Mr. Bruce Smart the lucky number. Mr. Alf Ganderton played an extra and Mr. R. Burgess was the M.C. The Sociaj Committee extends its thanks to the ladies and others for their assistance in the supper room. The next dance will be held early in February and Pompey Durie will again be engaged 'o supply the music. MARTON A. AND P. SHOW The Marton A. and P. Show will be held on the Marton racecourse on Wednesday, January 30, and entries for all stock section close on Monday, January 21. Schedules will be posted on application to A. Way, secretary, P.O. Box 3, or 'phone 2301, Marton. GREATFOKD SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB A meeting of the Greatfold Spoihs and Social Club will be held in the Greatford on Wednesday, January 16,' at 8 p.m., to confirm the minutes of the previous meeting. MARTON AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB A club night will be held at the Marton swimming baths to-Ynorrow (Thursday) evening, commencing at 5.30 p.m. A splendid programme has been arranged and tnere will be events for all. The last meeting was a great success and attracted an enthusiastic Assemblage of the public. ROAD CYCLE RACE The following are the handicaps for the road cycle race to be held this (Wednesday) evening, starting at b o’clock: D. Wapp scr., S. Robertson 15secs.» R. Dailey 20secs., C.
